Our story

We moved closer to the water—and built our life around it.

Captain Will has been a boater all his life. He’s a USCG-licensed captain, works on Lake Union every day, and serves professionally as a delivery captain. Renee grew up around cars, has always loved tiny houses and the water, and discovered just how much she loved boating alongside Captain Will.

We moved to Seattle from Oklahoma, where reaching the lake meant a drive of more than an hour. Today, we live in an apartment beside Lake Union, with our boat moored nearby. When we’re not working, we love exploring Lake Union, Lake Washington, and Puget Sound, with trips by boat toward Canada whenever we can.

Our first boat together taught us the whole story.

Buying a boat is exciting. Owning one also means keeping up with maintenance, tracking down dealers, navigating warranties, and coordinating service—often while work and life keep moving.

When we bought our first boat together, we experienced that reality firsthand. We learned how much peace of mind comes from knowing someone reliable is paying attention, documenting what they see, and helping move the next task forward.

That’s why we created Hayes Yacht Company.

We wanted to help fellow owners care for valuable boats when life gets busy. Our approach is simple: show up, look carefully, communicate clearly, and treat every boat the way we’d want ours treated.

Captain Will brings a lifetime on the water and professional captain experience. Renee brings an owner’s eye, an organizer’s care, and the perspective of someone who came to boating through curiosity and fell in love with it. Together, we bring practical, personal attention to every relationship.
